When I first stumbled on to this area of our tactical gear community. I kinda just overlooked it, why would I need a defense pen? I still think that. But after reseraching them and looking at them, I like them. I realize they are quality writing utensils and IMO very attractive. I don't intend on ever using them for a defense role, rather just to have for pure enjoyment purposes. Do any of you have experience with "tactical" or "defense" pens.

Here is the one I ordered. It's a Schrade brand pen. I'm sorry I have a thing for pink anodizing.

Matt, this is something I have not heard of before. Tell us more. Is this an existing or emerging market?
Yea Matt, I'd like to know more too. I have two grand daughters that carry some kind of defense spray but it's a little big and cumbersome. I am sure alot of others might have use of something like this in this crazy world we live in.
I would love to hear more also please.  Anymore pic?  maybe one with the blade showing?

Well, a garden variety "tactical defense pen" is a pen that is specifically designed(or marketed) to be used as a kubaton type of weapon. They generally come with the non-writng end tapered to a point or force multiplyer. I personally like them for a couple reasons: they are a good introduction to higher quality writing utensils, they are made to a higher standard than your regualar Bic pen, they are quite attractive coming in many different styles and colors, and I guess if the need should ever arise that I didn't have another type of defense tool it could possibly serve in that function. But for the most part I believe that people get these pens because they are just fun to own and use, and probably a great conservation piece at the office. They are like knives in that there are lower quality pens such as a Uzi Brand or no name china brand, all the way up to say a Benchmade pen which are quite nice. All in all I think they are just a great piece of gear to add to my edc, it can perform and give me enjoyment. These are just my opinions on the subject. That's why I started the discussion, to see what everyone else thought on the subject.

Don, that's a great one, bolt action to boot!

I always hear Steve on Knives Live talking about Fisher pens, but I didn't know they had these too. Hmmm, never saw any in the catalog that I remember either. I'll have to look some more.

i forgot when you go to www.smkw.com hit serach for tactical pen they have some good ones.now the fisher pens are the ones that write up side down and in any weather.hope that helps guys....
Glad to see there are some other ones that don't have hearts on them.  I have nothing wrong with them but they just arn't my style.  What is also nice about these is according to my friend who flies quite a bit (and is reading over my shoulder) he has been using these for a bit and he likes to carry one with him because he can take them on a plane.  So just in case anything were to happen he has some sort of protection on him at all times.
SMKW has quite a few, even rough rider makes a pretty cool one

I just received my pen, it is the Schrade Pink version, but it does not come with hearts it has ridges instead. I just used that picture because it was the best one I could find on google. First impressions: it is lighter than I was expecting, has quite a nice little point, even a medium power hit from this would cause some serious damage. The quality is good but not great, but worth $22. It's going to work nice as an edc pen. It definitely sparked my interest in higher quality pens.

Check out what i found today, not quite a tactical pen but something I am thinking about getting my wife to carry in her purse.
