Guys in the know, what is your method of sharpening? A sharp knife is a safe knife!!!

I like and am adopting the convex grind on all my knives and Kyley's method is flawless and inexpensive.

Check it out.

Sorry for straying from the topic but I wanted to make sure people could find Kyley's work since I'm posting his stuff.....I don't know if he's on here, I'll email him and ask, every knife guy or gal should be :(

I've got a couple of paper wheels mounted on a 6" Harbor Freight buffer & the Ultimate Sharpener (belt sander) from Chipping Away in Canada. I carve fish & duck decoys & sometimes sharpen for other people & for my knife sales customers. This speeds up the process considerably.
Kyley is talented, that's for sure. I don't think I have the skill and/or patience to properly produce a convex edge on one of my knives.

Too bad metal/knife-working classes aren't common.
I currently sharpen my V grinds and hollow grinds using the Sharpmaker and finishing on a double sided strop (BRKT compounds). Plan on getting the Ultra fine rods soon.

I need to pick up some sandpaper to sharpen my convex blades. Some of them need more than stropping now.
For production knives, I prefer the Lansky Controlled Angle Sharpening System. A guide-rod system will provide for a more precise bevel angle every time and makes quick work to maintain your blade edge.

Just a side note.... Sharpen, Hone, and Strop are not merely words to describe sharpening a blade. They are actually technical terms defining a process as to sharpening a blade.

Sharpen - To move a blade towards the edge in a circular motion against a stone or other appropriate substance.
Hone - To move a blade towards the edge in a drawing lateral motion against a stone or other appropriate substance.
Strop - To move a blade away from the edge in a drawing lateral motion against a stone or other appropriate substance.
Indubitably there are better models of guide-rod systems, but for just starting out in blade maintenance, Lansky fills the requirements needed, and at an affordable price. Once one gets used to utilizing such a system and their collection begins to grow, then a more appropriate model can be acquired.... one has to crawl before walking, and walk before running. ;)
