Got the Dejavoo through the mail today with out seeing one in person. Nice knife however the retention when in the closed position is non existent. I can deploy the blade without even using the spyderco hole! lol Im kinda a fraid it will open in the pocket (thank God its tip down carry)! lol Do you guys that own it experience the same? Ever open in pocket?

Howdy John. I have the larger of the two. the retention in the closed position is a little weak on mine but wouldn't say "nonexistent". In hindsight i probably would have been happier with the smaller one just because pocket carry is slightly cumbersome with the big one. It is still one of my favorites because of its visual appeal and handle slab shape. I suppose you could try adjusting the pivot screw (as i did on mine) and see how that works for you. If not, return it to them to remedy the problem. the makers need to know about this stuff. enjoy.
Can you deploy the blade straight from your pocket with a flick of the wrist w/o using the spydie hole? I can and that seems a bit to easy. I have the larger too. Thanks for your response. I will try adjusting the pivot screw a bit.
No, I can't. If i adjusted the pivot i could but the probability of needing to do that is pretty remote. Fast deployment is cool but "secure lockup" is more of a concern; the simple reason being that i don't want to inflict harm on myself when using the knife.
Well, John...on my larger Dejavoo, this is absolutely a problem. It is less of an issue with the smaller one. Actually, if you want to know how to fix this problem, you can go to YouTube and watch a video by a member called "Bluntruth4u". Good vid with good suggestions for fixing the knife. He knows just what he is talking about and I recommend this highly.
What you should do is tighten the pivot screw just 1/4th a turn and it will fix the problem if not tighten it a little more.I had the same problem.the blue box haas the tool tou need or go to a hardware store for a star wrentch.
I wish you luck.
P.S BENCHMADE ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!
The detent on the 740 is acknowledged to be weak. While mine is OK without messing, the smaller 745 has better retension factor and just feels a little safer. The reference to: "You can go on YouTube and watch a video by a member called "Bluntruth4u". Good vid with good suggestions for fixing the knife..." is interesting, in we were just discussing this fix on the BM Forum and having tried it it does work.

What I would love to see is a small metal shim instead of the paper version mentioned in the vid placed inside the lock/liner side as I use my knives frequently in the kitchen and the paper would get ruined very quickly.

And what Frank says above, tightening the pivot can help I agree with that. BTW - maybe mentioned here somewhere, for regular maintenance on Benchmades, the two Torx drivers most used are the T-6 for clip and handle screws, and the T-10 for most pivot bolts.

Last note: If you like the Deja's, you should try the 741 "Onslaught'...with a 4+" 154cm blade and Axis mechanics it's just a fun knife to play with, even fits in your pocket without too much fuss.

Cheers,
Joe
Good post, Joe! I saw the video from Steve (Bluntruth4u). Steve knows knives and I'm sure that his fix does work. Personally, I don't have the detent issue on the smaller Deja.
Yes, I agree with Joe...I would much prefer a metal shim then a piece of paper. This is a blue class knife...I should not have to do a paper fix to keep it safe. I saw that video from Blunt...good idea but just not my style. Love the onslaught!!!! Dont edc it much but once in awhile its cool to carry (usually when edcing my Ruger LCP...just to compensate for the 380 round)!!!! lol
This is odd, my large Dejavoo even after being lubed and cleaned with the 2 blue products they offer showed none of these complaints. Maybe mine is a later "fixed" version? If not im not fixing what is'nt broken!
Just like dealing with a car made by different mechanics, it's the same with production knives. Neither my 740 or 745 Dejas have any sloppiness at all...yet the first 745 I bought had to go back three times and I finally got rid of it, go figure.
