Hello all.
I have the opportunity to buy a 479 Buck Diamondback Knife. It has China stamped on the blade...costs about $40. Is this a quality item? Is it too expensive?

hey, Ive had good experiences with their china made blades. I have a cheapo buck stockman than i saw at walmart, and frankly I've seen better quality out of the china made stockman's than the USA made ones in terms of blade play, grind lines, and general finish. So long as it feels good to you i wouldn't worry the slightest bit! Hope this helps -- Alex
Hi Martino, I don't think you'll be disappointed by the quality but I think $40 is too high. Do a search, check ebay and some of the online knife stores. I found the Diamondback for as little as $24 + shipping. Mike
could these be un licensed copies not authorized by Buck?
I don't think so, some photos show the box and tang stamp, could be though, I don't know. Looks like the 479BK and the 473BK are the same knife, different model though. Now I'm wondering if I'm even looking at the same knife as Martino... is this the one?

That is the one...felt ok...quite sturdy...thanks for the info guys
I agree $40 is on the high side. There are many USA made bucks available on ebay for less. The Omni hunter series for one.
Say folks, I'm still new here. But as I read the posts about BUCK knifes and china all I can say is that no matter what country the knife came from, BUCK will owner ALL warranty repairs. I had a chinese toothpick blade snap on me cleaning a spark plug. So I sent it back along with the 10.00 handling charge. What I got back was One good looking American refurbished knife. As for the workmanship of the foreign BUCKS. Well there close. Smooth lines. clean profile. All in all A still good knife.
I have the Buck Stockman and Buck Diamondback both of which are made in China. I must say that I have been impressed with how well made they are. I mostly use them as work knives but they have held up well to heavy use.
My opinion on the China knives : I am sure they are pretty decent quality and cost less for Buck to buy from a third party. (or internationally owned factory whatever it may be)
I also must say I will not support the purchase of these knives, as it is very key to The Economy and The Earth for that matter to support things as close to where you live. Ever heard of the 100 mile diet?
I think if you go to there site at one time they stated that the would not make any more Chinese Knives but who really knows

Sure have Jerad, I live that 100 mile diet almost everyday.
I don't doubt the quality but I won't pay $40 for it.
