Folks,  Really need some help from you knowledgable Case Folks.  I purchased a small collection from and older gentleman(yep--even older than me!) and he says he thinks the handles are custom, but could not remember details.  It is a large Trapper -- Tested XX Razor Edge -- Hard to tell due to tang/bolster position, but a 1 or 2 dot.  The Handles are some form of sea creature, but I can't tell whether it is abalone,black-lip, gold-lip, etc....  Also, I am very technology challenged and don't know how to post a pic, but if someone can email me I know how to add to email and send back.

Shkbly@msn.com,

Any help would be deeply appreciated!   Randy

Here are pics of Randy's knife. Looks like a rehandle.

The pattern # will help some time . If it starts with a 6 that means bone if starts with a 8 that means pearl ,if you open both both blades and look at the pins that hold the handle materail on you can tell if there is extra holes then it has been replaced hope this helps
Also most Trappers have 3 pins.
I belive Case didn't make a pearl Trapper untill the 80's
Guys -- Thanx for all the help-- yes it is 6254 and yes, it has been re-handled. I was just hoping that someone might be able to tell me what kind of sea creature the shell came from. I have owned MOP,black and gold lip and abalone and this doesn't look like any of those and all of them---if that makes sense. Great to hear from all of y'all and keep digging and scratching--maybe y'all will figure it out. Thanx Again!!!!
Abalone
Thanx Gary!
