Ok,  I don't actually have one, YET, (it's been ordered now), but Tidioute (Great Eastern) recently introduced a new whittler pattern with a wharncliffe.  The #57 pattern, known as the Geppetto Whittler looks somewhat like a smaller version of the Seahorse.

I've been wanting a smaller "Seahorse" for a while now.   Nothing wrong with a Seahorse, mind you, but the 3.5" size of the Geppetto should fit real well in my pocket.

I had asked around CASE sites if they would consider a "Medium Seahorse" in the 3.5" range, and was told that there were no plans to make one.  (They even went as far as locking the Seahorse up, for 3 years, in the CASE vauly.)

I even asked the folks at Smokey Mountain Knife Works if they could modify one of their Sleveboard whittlers with the addition of a wharncliffe, no luck there either.

Cant wait till I can try this one out.

I ran across this today ... a Case Classic Stag 530055 Lil Wharncliff Whittler on Ebay ... nothing like asking for the moon & getting it all in one knife ... I love the size ... the slim lines & the wharncliff blade ... but not the price :)

You got that right Peggy, this is the pattern that created my love of knives.  I should be receiving my Tidioute #57 today (yahoo).  Can not wait and since I happen to have a few of these 55's and the seahorses in the safe I can do some comparisions for us.  I get excited about getting new knives, but this new Tidoute has me drooling

Well I did not get mine today but Donnie got his EDC.  Will put up some pics and comparisions tomorrow.  Can already tell, this will be a favorite
I was looking at them on the EC website ...  did you go with the pink awabi shell?  I think I saw a pic on my brother's blog  ...  can't wait to hear what you & JJ think of the geppetto.
Donnie got the purple sage as a user.  I will be carrying the pink and the primitive bone will go in the safe.  This pattern will be one we end up with one of everything we can get I think.  Did you see some of the other patterns on thier?  Right now I carry a #66 mink in the beavertail.  Its also 3 1/2 inches and slimmer than most so it fits well in smaller hands

very nice & 3 1/2" seems to be a good fit ... lots of patterns over there I'd never seen before.  That melon whittler is very interesting.

OK, the camera is telling me it needs new batteries but lets see what we can do.  Lets look at some numbers

Seahorse                                                Geppetto

4 in closed                                             3 1/2 closed

scale width 1/4 to 1/2                     scale width 1/2 to 3/4

Width of body 3/8                             width of body 3/8

stainless steel                                       1095 carbon steel

Main blade length on both knives is 2 1/2

So the Geppetto may be the littlier brother in lemgth but he must have been working out because he is a bit beefed up in comparision

Donnie will be using his #57 at work this week, will let you know how a field test goes

Jan,
Tell Donnie that I'm jealous.
Greg was supposed to get the non searialized in on Saturday, so I'm hoping to see them sometime this week.
I'm impressed by the side by side picture. Beefed up is right. I sure happy to see that the wharncliffe retains the same lines as the Seahorse. Just wish they had a pen instead of the clip.

JJ,

I can tell the difference in what you two use your knives for with your blade prefernce on this one.  Donnie prefers the clip blade.  He does remodels on homes and feels the clip is a little more user friendly for him.  I am willing to bet that pen blade works well on the peachpit basket handles.

Donnie says to tell you, he has seen you successfully modify blades before!  I say wait ...eventually you will probably see one on there

Great minds think alike.

Mine should be here in a couple of days.

very interesting ... looking forward to the field test.
Well Donnie was able to test his some today.  Rebuilding the plumbing in a friends home.  The house is probably 50 years old and had developed some issues with the faucets and pipes leading to the faucets.  He said this knife performed very well in the intricate little tasks like taking the tabs out of the hot and cold. LOL, thats about all he was able to use a knife for today but will fill in some blanks over the next few days.  The knife is a good fit in the hand and it tucks away in the watch pocket of his jeans.  No putting it in the main pocket for the change to knock up against and easy to get to
