Ok, I don't actually have one, YET, (it's been ordered now), but Tidioute (Great Eastern) recently introduced a new whittler pattern with a wharncliffe. The #57 pattern, known as the Geppetto Whittler looks somewhat like a smaller version of the Seahorse.
I've been wanting a smaller "Seahorse" for a while now. Nothing wrong with a Seahorse, mind you, but the 3.5" size of the Geppetto should fit real well in my pocket.
I had asked around CASE sites if they would consider a "Medium Seahorse" in the 3.5" range, and was told that there were no plans to make one. (They even went as far as locking the Seahorse up, for 3 years, in the CASE vauly.)
I even asked the folks at Smokey Mountain Knife Works if they could modify one of their Sleveboard whittlers with the addition of a wharncliffe, no luck there either.
Cant wait till I can try this one out.
Pics and a working review when mine arrives...

You got that right Peggy, this is the pattern that created my love of knives. I should be receiving my Tidioute #57 today (yahoo). Can not wait and since I happen to have a few of these 55's and the seahorses in the safe I can do some comparisions for us. I get excited about getting new knives, but this new Tidoute has me drooling

Permalink Reply by Peggy Lu on October 15, 2011 at 21:31 very nice & 3 1/2" seems to be a good fit ... lots of patterns over there I'd never seen before. That melon whittler is very interesting.
OK, the camera is telling me it needs new batteries but lets see what we can do. Lets look at some numbers
Seahorse Geppetto
4 in closed 3 1/2 closed
scale width 1/4 to 1/2 scale width 1/2 to 3/4
Width of body 3/8 width of body 3/8
stainless steel 1095 carbon steel
Main blade length on both knives is 2 1/2
So the Geppetto may be the littlier brother in lemgth but he must have been working out because he is a bit beefed up in comparision
Donnie will be using his #57 at work this week, will let you know how a field test goes

I can tell the difference in what you two use your knives for with your blade prefernce on this one. Donnie prefers the clip blade. He does remodels on homes and feels the clip is a little more user friendly for him. I am willing to bet that pen blade works well on the peachpit basket handles.
Donnie says to tell you, he has seen you successfully modify blades before! I say wait ...eventually you will probably see one on there
