Had a prominent dealer show me this toe he called a "lunch box" special....meaning some Case employee sometime down the line made this on his lunch break, unauthorized by the Case company.

I have heard "lunch box" specials have gotten to almost be a joke for "it's a fake." I can't attest to the authenicity of this knife, but know the dealer was convinced it was real.

Anyone ever seen this knife before?

Scott,
I don't know about this knife but with the available materials and the skill they posessed without question there were plenty of lunch box specials made. I worked around factories many years and have scene muzzle loaders, knives and mandolins built with quality next to none. The knives were made by taking the temper out of the files and had bone handles with silver inlay. They were a set of 8 steak knives, some of these people had skill to do anything,
As far as the above knife, he used the available blades which would have had the pull on the same side. He assembled with the available parts.
I always wondered if the Union Cut Knife I have was a lunch box knife.
