I was just wondering if any of you folks try to assemble complete collections of a pattern or of a handle material. When my addiction first took hold of me, I had these grandiose notions of complete collections of a particular pattern (say, the #73 single blade or all of the #48s); then I realized that some production numbers were very low . . . like 7 or 5 or in some cases even ONE. So even though I do have some complete sub-sets (the 3 #12 templars, for example), I generally now content myself with just picking up what I like, and I try to put aside the desire for completeness. I'm happier that way. I just love knives, whatya gonna do?  Gary T

My collection will be complete when GEC stops making new models I like and I have a pocket knife that will never actually leave the pocket. I would love to have one of very knife ever made, but if I did, I'd be a purer man and be too busy making sure they were staying mint and I would have no time for my friends.

I love their knives, but only as users.

They aren't exactly great when you leave them sit, they whine more than the other brands for use.

I have tried many times and all failed.....this time it wont.

Gary,

Great discussion.  We are eclectic in that.  In the PB and the Beavertails, we want to have one of very model (thank goodness we have met that goal so far).  But mostly it is just what we like and want.  Your right, it make us happier collectors

I think when you actually strive for complete collections there is more of a hunt, there is just a little more satisfaction when you know you got another one that keeps the collection alive.

I used to collect Case Folding Hunters, I loved the feeling of looking for that next great one, but I've given that all up. I can't stand to leave a GEC sit without at least a little use and I quit the Case knives.

Time has a way of changing ones perspective, sometimes it's for the better too.
