I recently read an article that has me rather confused.
The Department of Education has, for example, spent over $80k on Glock semi-automatic pistols and over $17k on Remington shotguns, but that still pales in comparison to the purchases of other non-law enforcement agencies.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service have bought 72,000 and 46,000 rounds of.40 caliber jacketed hollow point rounds (respectively). The Social Security Agency one-upped them, ordering over 174,000 hollow point rounds of ammunition.
Altogether in the last two years, non-military federal agencies have purchased over 2 billion rounds of rounds of ammunition (mostly hollow-points) for use in “target practice.”
Now we all know I dont shoot. I appreciate anyone and everyones right to bear arms, it was granted by our founding fathers and upheld by the highest courts in our land. So here is my confusion
The US Postal Service is an agency independent of the US government. The USPS has not directly received taxpayer-dollars since the early 1980s with the minor exception of subsidies for costs associated with the disabled and overseas voters. So we are paying for guns and ammo as a subsidy?
The Department of Education is administered by the United States Secretary of Education. It is by far the smallest Cabinet-level department, with about 5,000 employees. The primary functions of the Department of Education are to "establish policy for, administer and coordinate most federal assistance to education, collect data on US schools, and to enforce federal educational laws regarding privacy and civil rights. So I guess for this purpose the word enforce is the key?
The Department's mission is: to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access
The only dog I have in this fight is the right to bear arms, but how does any of this make sense and why don't we get a say in how our govt arms none combative agencies?

I had not seen this specific info before but for some time, I believe those in Washington that would like to abolish our rights to own guns are doing everything that they possibly can to make firearms expensive and are using any surplus budget moneys anywhere they can find it to buy ammo. This has been going on ever since Hobama has been in the Whitehouse. Here in my area you almost have to be on site when a retailer receives ammo and stand in line hoping they do not run out before they get to you. The price for ammo has also very significantly increased in price. We have a group in Washington that are slowly taking away a lot of things that we have taken for granted in past years every chance they get. We should all do our homework before every election & be very cognizant on how we vote relative to our Constitution & Bill of Rights no matter what our party affiliation might be. Thank God for organizations like N R A and their lobby efforts.

Jim you are right. I no longer care about a party. I care that the best we can vote for is the best of two bad apples in most cases. I propose a write in campaign. Lets just write "nobody on this ticket, try again"
With a debt of $ 12,774,497,715,450. They find surplus funds? That is a math trick I really need to know

This is a key time in our nations history. We stand to lose every freedom our Forefathers and countless true Americans who fought and died for our nation sought to protect. We have become a society of "protect me from myself". America was not built on that principal. It was built on the concept of Freedom. Something we all stand to lose, And its not just us, this is happening in many so called Free societies across the world.
Lets hope its not to late.

I agree Steve. I am just wondering how these "weapons" get approved into budgets for these Agencies. They are tools for most of us...a hunting tool, a defense option ect, but our government has named them (yes even the type of ammo) weapons. If a knife is a weapon in a school, how does the Dept of education get to spend over $80k of OUR MONEY on Glock semi-automatic pistols and over $17k on Remington shotguns?

I'll be perfectly honest by saying I'm confused. Why are these agencies buying guns and ammo? These aren't agencies that arm their agents, are they? Is it for the guards who patrol the Federal buildings that house these agencies? I can't seem to connect the dots!
