Hi Guys

I just joined iKC recently and noticed your group. I have two kukris (that's the way I've always seen it spelt!) that my father acquired during World War 2. I'm not sure exactly where he got them, but he may have had contact with Gurkha soldiers somewhere. He was in the British Navy and served in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, North Russia and Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). The two knives are very different quality. The photo here is of the better one - the steel is very good. The other one rusts very easily and I will clean it up before I photograph it. That one also has two little skinning knives. Have you heard of the tradition that if you ask a Gurkha to show you his knife, he will always give you a little nick before he puts it away. The tradition is that whenever the kukri is unsheathed blood must be drawn.

Jon what are the specs of said kukri ? if it is what think it is WWII chindit jungle kukri service issue , as for gurkhas having to drawn blood every time kukri is drawn is a bit of a myth !

This is the other kukri I mentioned - it is poorer quality steel and has the two little skinning knives. Which of my two kukris do you think is a chindit jungle kukri? What specs do you want? The total length of this knife is 17 inches and the blade is 13 inches long and 2 inches wide at the widest point. The one in my previous photo is 16.75 inches long with 12.5 inch blade.

As i said jon am not 100% abt iding the 1st kukri , its a service issue and by looks of handles which have a curve would make it for jungle use , its kukris sheath that is making me think its a chindit issue , karda is small cutting tool for the small jobs  chakam is for flint knapping fire striking and realining blade when kukris edge needs touch up .

Good looking Jon.  Thanks for sharing here
