I'm assembling my first fixed blade knife. I bought a blade and few other bits. So far,  I've cut the leather and spacer material for the handle. I have the first third or so loosely fitted on the tang. Will post an update on progress hopefully later in the week. Any comments or suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks

I see a knife that is coming along very nicely SK but I dont see a ridiculous error?

Jeremi,

Please tell me you got Gurb a pry bar after using that wonderful knife?

Sorry man....but I don't see it either. Don't feel too bad about it. I always have something that I think is wrong with my knives as well....even though other people never spot it outright.

Thanks for the comments. It is supposed to have equal numbers of leather picece between the spacers and the ends. It was right in the trial fitting but somehow I switched one piece from the middle to the back section during the glueing. So now there are 6 in the front section and 7 in the back. Oh well. I'm over it. In general, I'm pleased with my progress so far. further updates in a few days.

Mate, that's one of those things you'd only know if you're the one building the knife. I've never seen or heard of anyone COUNT the rings on a leather handle knife.

It's coming along slowly. I did some sanding on the weekend. The handle is still a little on the large side but I'm relatively pleased with the shape so far.

good job s.k. keep the good work up.you will be pleased when you are done.after the first one some things come a little easier.you always think there is something else i could of done.but there is a place where you have to stop and say it's done.

Lookin good.

SK,

LOL, I did try counting the rings because I figured, as the maker that would drive you crazy.  But even intentionally looking there I did not see it.  It is looking wonderful and the shape is looking very "hand" friendly, something that is always important to me.

Thank-you for your support everyone. Here is the most recent status. I've slimmed it down a little, sanded and rubbed-in some leather dubbin. I'll leave it for a day to dry.  Then some fine sanding and more dubbin on the weekend.

WOW! SK knife looks realy great, especialy those spacer! I was worried when you place a piic. of knife after sanding, but now it looks realy great!
Applause to Smiling-Knife and his great looking knife!!!!!!!

Thank-you very much for the compliment Ivars. Cheers! I may be able to finish it this weekend.
