Hi Folks,Just wondering if anyone has had luck using cutler pins? I bought some to pin a Green River blade I did a handle for and not much luck. I tried hammering, and using my press to set the pins and every time the rivets bent. Is there a special…Continue

Allright here we go, as promised. I've always wanted to own a big fighting knife/bowie. However ever since I started making knives I somehow can't justify spending a lot of money on a fixed blade to myself. So I decided to make it myself. As I have…Continue

I don't make knives for sale, I only make a very few and give them to friends and family. I do know that a maker can over price his knives and never be very succesfull. A knife maker, must know the price range of the knives he makes. I have a friend that makes knives, that the majority sell for $125 to $200, and he can,t make them fast enough. I guess, alot depends on what you put into the knife,.
Pricing is difficult thing, I have seen a custom knife what looks like a badly forged piece of steel for more than 100$ and guy who made this told that it have a damask layers around 13 000. No layers where visible no handle, no good grinding ..... what for 100 + $? Even prisoners make better tools! So that's that! In the same time look at Finnish knives! Forged blades, making great handles, leather sheath .... 40$!

Really....there doesn't seem to be an answer for that. I've seen people selling knives for prices that make me shake my head (and yet they still sell) and I've seen fantastic knives sit for months at mindbogglingly low prices.
Personally....I just give a rough estimate and if needed drop a couple of bucks.
But you asked for the Pro's out there....and I"m by no means a pro.

Here is a question for any pros out there, I have been playing with knife making for about 6 months now, still have a mile to go but, starting to make some nicer knifes. I was thinking about selling a few here and there, not looking to make a million but, help pay for its self. How do ya''ll base your pricing? Is it based on hours materials or all the above? I am sure quality has a huge roll in the price and, in that area I have improved but still a beginner.
