Ok yall made a few of these kydex sheaths now and keep encounter'n the same problem. I like my sheaths to have good snap or a solid hold on my knives but here is the problem; the sheath is marring (putting rub marks) on the blades finish. When I use less form fitting pressure on the foam there is to much slack or the blade doesn't quite snap in. Got me wonder'n so I took a look at my SOGs that come in kydex and sure enough they are marred. I never noticed until now, is this a common occurence? Or have Sog and I not perfected our system? This is strictly out of curiosity and better'n what I do as all of my knives are users and I am not real worried about the finish.

Hey John, having the same problem. I did a double take when I looked at my Rtak-2 . Came back from Ontario, and at first thought it was heavy corrosion. Turns out it was kydex, and it continues to do same. Like you, I use it for thrashing and not worried about blade. If this was a different level of blade, I'd be concerned. Most sheaths I have are leather or Cordura. Blessings-Jeff
That's what I thought and was glad I use nylon or leather for my firearms. I got some safe queens I'd be upset about but for knives and other every day items I think it is a small price to pay for how durable and convenient kydex is. Just wondered if anyone else encountered and or solved the issue.
I might experiment with a combo of these ideas! Thanks guys!
Here's a suggestion.
when you make your sheath, put a layer or two or even three of masking tape on the blade starting about an inch from the top and ending about a half inch from the bottom. cut the tape with scissors before putting it on the blade for a neat appearance because you will see the impression of the tape on the out side of the sheath.

The tape should extend approx 1/16th - 1/8th inch beyond the edge of the blade. Cut that with scissors after all layers are on the blade. You will have a tight fit on the guard so you'll get snap. you'll have a tight fit on the top and bottom of the blade so you won't have rattle. The thickness of the masking tape will let the grit fall thru (mostly). drill a 3/16th hole in the back side of the sheath for drainage.
that way you can wash out grit from time to time.

Best wishes, Paul
