The online community of knife collectors
I screwed up my first attempt to post to Collectors Collect and Scott suggested I start a new discussion for anyone interested.
I first bought an old turn of the century wooden KODAK folding camera many years ago because I thought it was pretty with the bellows, shiny brass & nickel plate. I paid way too much but by golly, I was a collector!
That camera is long gone & I bought/sold (mostly bought) many, many since then. Friends and family tell me I'm a pack rat ; naw, I'm a "collector". Besides, I have a character flaw - anything worth doing is surely better if done in excess.
My interest in old 35mm cameras got it's start a few years back when I found an odd looking NIKKOR-S lens in a junk box. It sat around for months until one day I got curious and researched it. It was a rare, very desirable macro lens for a mid-50's NIKON Rangefinder. It ended up with a photographer in California and as far as I know, he still uses it. I was hooked!
Well, finds like that are very few & far between but I've found there's still value in 35mm film cameras, particularly some of the lenses. NIKON & CANON of course, but don't brush off some of the Konica Minolta's.
Arguably, the "Holy Grail" of collectible 35mm cameras is the NIKON I Rangefinder introduced in 1950. I've never seen one in real life but I'm looking because I know there's at least one sitting in someone's attic! It seems fitting to start this discussion with a pic I "borrowed":

Splurged on the lense. $86 got me an f 1:1.4 on my std 50 mm Canon lense. f1.8 was std @ about half the cost. I was never sorry for that little xtra bit of light. Love that camera. !!!
Picked up a Pentex K-1000 w/ std 50 mm lense .. plus a generic telephoto & 28mm wide angle for my daughter .. when she started fishing for me Canon. ONLY prob w/ that camera .. no way to turn off the light meter .. 'cept the lense cap. Oh, 'n I've given that girl a couple NIKON digitals .. she's tough on em .. they do take good pics.
