Hey I was on you tube and I saw this vid. I have a RAT1 and I thought it was one of the strongest folders that i owned till I saw this video. Never send a folder to do a fixed blades job... Let me know what you think.

Thanks Bryan (AKA thecajunblaze on YT) for making this video...
I feel the exact same. Expecting a folder to baton is ridiculous (and I know Cajun was doing this to illustrate a point). I think people get so obsessed with a company's name, steel type and so on, that they expect the world of everything they own.

The truth is that fixed blades were the first knives and are the ones best designed for hard use. Folders are compact and convenient for our safety-oriented societies. I wish I could carry my Izula as an EDC everywhere but the sad truth is that in this day-and-age, I cannot.

Remember, folders are superb for regular, urban/light EDC chores. Fixed blades are necessary for survival and other hard use scenarios.

ha, i just ordered this knife. i definitely won't be trying this :D. i ordered an Izula along with it for this kind of work. of even better an RC-4. this knife however seens like a pretty capable folder and i can't wait to get it.

Lol i love this knife. I hope to get another soon. I like the blaze and i think he did a gj showing what not to do with a folder. Any folder would prob break being hit like that. GJ
Yeah, that is so true, I would never use my folder for that, as I don't believe you can design a folder to take that kind of abuse. However I have seen in another video, how to baton wood with a folder, I think Bluntruth did it in which you unlock the knife after you get it started in the wood, then pivot the handle down in to an inverted L shape hold you thumb on the joint area between handle and blade and then go at it.
Got My Rat 1 today, will never expect a knife to do the job of a hatchet. I was taught early on not to use them for screwdrivers either. A knife is to cut things end of story. No problem with guys who torture test, just not my thing. Same thing with my other weapons I don't abuse them, so I have the confidence that they will function in their role when I need them to. Just my thoughts.
You're right Bruce, Bluntruth unlocked the knife, and then batonned. In an emergency it will work, otherwise it's needless abuse if you can avoid it. I like the RAT 1 folder, and have been EDCing it for over a month. For the money, I think it's a great deal, but it is just a folding knife.
