One important factor in regards to tactical folder is that it can be used closed or open for defense since usually time to deploy, open and engage is not going to happen. For this my choices are Bram Frank's LLC/Gunting and Emerson's full size Comander. Something to think about when selecting a folder for defensive usage.

Good point, I'm not a fan myself of taking on an already deployed opponent with nothing but your "pommel". If you had enough time to bring it out you should instinctively already have deployed it and the "pommel" will work just as well with a deployed blade.

Granted it requires more knowledge of anatomy, clinching, wrist control and so on if you aim to disarm by blunt force but I also want to end the encounter as fast as possible so instead of using the blade to make the assailant react in case I'm worried about legal actions or just don't wan't to hurt him, I would use the center low back hand to strike down and up on his jaw, grab wrist control and then secure my blade at his throat to bring the scenario to a complete halt.
