One of the things I've found beneficial for left-hand carry, with folders that have their pocket clips orientated for right-hand use, is to carry them on the right side inner pocket of a coat/jacket. Retrieving the folder with the left hand results in the folder being properly aligned for left-hand use, regardless if they are tip down or tip up carry.

The reverse can be done for righties. If you have a knife that is left hand carry capable, switching the clip over would allow you to carry the knife in your left inner coat/jacket pocket, and would then be ready for a right-handed deployment.

The fist thing I do with a new knife is take off the clip, I've got a drawer full.
Good geometric thinking!

I'm a right-hander, and remove the clips from any folders that have them as they make the grip uncomfortable and quite un-tactical in my style. So the knife goes in my left pocket along with some folding money. About $50 in a $20, a $10, two $5 and ten $1 bills in a street roll, highest on the outside. Out comes my licensed firearm in my right hand, just a second after the money comes fluttering out concealing the opening knife. It's all rather smooth. A famous magician, business partner and dear friend has trained me over 25 years on the voice and slight of hand and misdirection needed for a winning combat presentation of arms.

Back at the start of my career I was trained in Shoto-Kan by Mas Oyama and knife fighting by William Applegate. Although I only had a few days instruction by these masters personally, each lesson burns in my heart and mind to this day as I seek to master the wisdom imparted.

In the well known quote by American author John Steinbeck,
"Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he's too old to fight, he'll just kill you."
I owe my life to the lefties who have trained me to be fully ambidexterous with weapons.
As I've embraced the years, I've come to appreciate the adage... "O;d age and Treachery, will win out over Youth and Vigour."
Another use for right-handed clips for the Lefty is to be able to use a fast reverse grip when deploying the folder. With the folder rigged right-handed and placed in the left pocket. For tip up carry; the knife is extracted straight up with the thumb and forefinger and the spine of the blade facing to your front. The handle is then either given a sharp downward jerk, or the thumb stud is pushed with the middle finger. For tip down carry; the knife is extracted and rotated 180° with the spine of the blade facing to your front. The handle is then either given a sharp downward jerk, or the thumb stud is pushed with the middle finger. This holds true for the Righty with the folder being rigged left-handed and placed in the right pocket. This will work with either manual or assisted openers and is of course predicated on the knife design and ease of opening.
