alright i have two favorites, one the spyderco byrd crossbill and two the Benchmade Grip 551 they are both very affordable (knife BM 551 is around $60 and Crossbill around $30) and they both are completely ambidextrous knives meaning that you can switch the pocket clip from left to right and they are fast to open fast to close with either hand you want
on my Cold Steel American Lawman I switched the pocket clip and thumb stud so that I can use it left handed, and it is great i have no problems using it one handed
So far it's my Spyderco Endura 4. I am hoping to buy a Sog Spec-Elite II in a few weeks and give that a try. I'll update with my results.
At this point I'm having a Spyderco Byrd Flight as my EDC-blade, and its doing such a great job. Its my favorite left-handed knife at this moment. No trouble opening/close it with only my left hand. The overall quality you get for the price of these Byrd knives is unbelieveble.
Hey Brady, is there a big diference in the quality of the steel between the Byrd and the Benchmade? Great idea to set up a group for us lefties.
that is a good question and to be honest i don't rely know a lot about steel however, i can tell you that 8CrMov which is the steel the byrd line use is ,and I'm quoting cutlerylover on this, its the Preferred low end quality steel but if you rely want to learn about the steel go to benchmade or spyderco's web site and click on steel's or watch cutlerylover's vid on steel also my BM grip has 154 cm steel which is a very good steel better then the byrd line
What I understood of the 8Cr13Mov is that is simular to AUS8, that Iknow from other knives. Bit on the softer side. But easy to keep sharp. Think your BM won't loose its edge as fast as one of the Byrdknives. Don't know that much of all these kinds of steel either.....
Definately the Chris Reeve Left Hand Sebenza
Right now it's the Benchmade 580 Barrage. However, I have fitted out some others for left-hand use. The CS Spartan and Recon 1, both of which have the left and right hand clips attached. I keep the Recon 1 thumb stub geared for right hand deployment, but I'm able to easily open it left-handed using the screw on the opposite side of the thumb stud. I've added the clip from the Kershaw Whirlwind to my Kershaw BOA so I can have both clips on it. I've also removed the BOA's thumb stud, as I could not get any decent purchase from it for deployment. So it's a flipper only deployment now.
.. JJ & I put together some links to steel information here ..
