Guys, i just want to tell you a little story here.

I  want to tell you that Kershaw started my love for knives. My good friend
EDC'd a Kershaw Scallion and i was fascinated with the Speed Safe
feature. watching him press the flipper and seeing the blade zip out
immediately pretty much had me hooked. i was in disbelief that this knife was
legal to own because it acted so much like a auto knife (i was young and he just got out of the military so i
already looked up to him). He let me EDC his Blackout and i could tell
that he was happy to see me take such an interest in his small
collection.

since then, i have bought many many knives. i have a few Benchmades,
Spydercos, Emersons, SOGs, and other production companies. i also own
several other [overpriced] blades like my Striders.

My collection has almost come full circle. I'm buying another Kershaw
RAM- one of my favorite knives of all time. i got one when they first
came out and it was my primary EDC's for over a year. i gave it to my
older brother because i was hoping that he would catch 'the collectors
bug' from it using it. he didnt. he still likes it and uses it but he
doesn't feel the need to buy another knife while he owns my RAM. oh
well,
its really the only knife he needs.

i was thinking about making a Gentleman's RAM and giving it to my
Father.  The RAM completely transforms when Phillip
Dobson wood overlays are placed on it, its tactical look is completely
replaced with a very elegant appearance. i know he wont appreciate the
knife as much as i would. But i think it would mean a lot FOR ME if i
gave him a special and unique knife.

Was there a knife company that started your fascination with blades?

tl;dr: I like Kershaw, they are the reason i collect knives today. What started your fascination with knives?

hey thanks for joining the group and your story was so interesting!, i'd have to say buck knives started my fascination
Nice story, and I suspect your brother will be collecting knives, just as long as you give them to him for free, ;) As for the knife gift for your father, why not consider a Kershaw Mini Mojito. It's compact, elegant, stylish, has Speedsafe, plus the stud lock is easier to use with older hands (this from experience,) can go with casual or formal, and it's fairly sheeple-friendly.

For me, knives have always been tools. First as companion tools and then as tools of the trade in the Navy. I went through virtually every brand and style of blade from pen knife to cutlass, never really had any brand loyalty. It wasn't til the 90s that I finally got around to getting a Cold Steel blade, I believe it was an SRK or its forerunner. I wanted something along the lines of my old Buck 119 but more robust. I don't know what steel it had back then, but it sure met my requirements in spades. Eventually it grew legs and wandered off. I got side-tracked working in a non-knife environment for a while, but after a few years I was in a more suitable situation where a knife was par for the course. Needless to say, I started looking for a suitable replacement blade so I turned to the Cold Steel site and boy howdy it was kid-in-the-candy-store time. Over the next few years I got ten fixed blades. I tried some of their folders but wasn't that impressed at the time. Although I did just get the 2010 Recon 1 with the Tri-AD Lock, finger grooves, and thumb stud instead of the thumb plate, and am very pleased with it. After haunting my local knife store for some months they finally got a shipment of Kershaws in, and I was hooked. I've got about twenty now and they're my first choice for folders, with Cold Steel as my first for fixed blades.
