...to each their own but my definition of vintage knives are those with good old carbon steel blades! This material is being used less and less. There is nothing to match the patina of an old carbon steel blade. The care is also different. Yea we got to worry about corrosion/rust and all that good stuff which creates a "relationship" between man and his blade. It's really too bad that all these knive magazines and books focus primarily on the "new" stuff. Nothing against new stuff..but it's really important to keep old traditions alive..too many of today's knives are trophies that are locked up in display cases and safes. Give me an old vintage that's been handled and developed it's own individual personality....a life!

Very well said. Also, you make an excellent point and one I haven't thought of before-with today's collectors the concept of the relationship between a man (or woman) and his blade is developed and bonded by caring for it (In the old days using it have included using it too). I like that.

The old knives talk- Listen to what this one is saying:

What you have said is true. The creation of that relationship takes TIME. Giving time to something freely devellops the relationship. The more I handle a knife I like the more I like it. Funny yes.?
There`s quote a few books on antique knives.but Knife World is about the only publication with anything on old knives. The other mags.I guess the new knife ads pay the bills.
True words!!!! Now days about all you get is pretty pictures
does anyone know what make and era this one is?
