I would go Kydex and that way you don't have to worry about snap straps. You could use a tec-lok or some other belt loop.

Best Way to Make a Sheath for a Fixed Blade

any advice for making a sheath for a full-tang hiking knife? needs a belt loop, and a snap-strap on the handle above the edge of the blade. I have a leather one that the snap-strap broke on, so if this can be repaired it would be great. if not, then i will need to make a new sheath. Pictures will come later, but any information would be helpful.See More

Favorite Kind of Knives: I prefer the Ka-Bar brand of knives, because i like full-tangs with the weight in the back. As far as folding knives go, the Ka-Bar Warthog is the mere image of perfection.
