Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with my friend Michael from www.droppointhunter.com The sentiment expressed in his email was just so true to the heart of all of us who are true users, collectors or creators of knives. I will send your responses to him or you can leave comments on his website.
Enough from me here is his email:
We're away this weekend at the Dixie Deer Classic in Raleigh North…

Memorial Day is a US Federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. It was called Decoration Day, after the American Civil War, to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil War. Southern womens organizations and southern schoolchildren decorated Confederate graves during the Civil War, but each region had its date mostly in May.
For those iKC members who do not live in the US, this day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars. It is a day of…

It's a great day today and a very Happy Birthday to iKC ! Yes, just 3 years ago, iKnife Collector became a reality. From our earnest start it was destined to become a quality, friendly knife collecting community with the idea all members are bound together through their passion for knives.
Our founder was none other than, writer and publisher of the Cutlery Journal Scott King, who worked tirelessly in the early day to launch iKnife Collector. This was his vision, that all knife…

On iKC we have an often used Feature called Events. Our hobby to a certain extent, in times both past and present depended on knife shows and events for companies and individuals to showcase the knives that were being produced for consumers. They served as a buying and selling event for sure. Now they also are a way for like minded iKC collectors to meet each other in person and talk about the hobby they love.
Think about it, every year certain Shows are can't miss, blockbuster type…

Godzilla Unchained said… Hi Steve,
Thanks for your latest message. I am still learning to navigate the iKC site, and am only now just barely up to CRAWLING speed. Next Friday's live chat with Queen and SMKW, (the Rough Rider Folks) folks sounds too good to be true. I will plan to be there. Just please, do me one favor if you would, and respond back and let me know what time the event begins.
Best regards,
GZ
David Megnin said… Thank you for the Birthday wish, Steve. It's much appreciated.
I've been spending this morning shopping for a recurve bow. I found some "hand made" ones from China, but I'm not sure of their quality. So, I need to do some more research.
I hope you have a great day, too, Steve.
Oh, I'll try to get some pictures of a few new knives, tomahawks and swords to post later. ;) My addiction is truely out of control. ;)
Cheers,
David

PS, please don't laugh (or please do laugh. Why not...) but I picked up a new Barlow this week from eCOP's website. Besides SAK's, old Scout multi-folders, and Congress pattern models, and other stuff, I am a sucker for a pretty Barlow, but like many others nowadays can't afford the ones I really like. So every once in a while I will commit the Cardinal Sin (for Purists), and will compromise for something from the Far East.
The new Barlow is the Rough Rider BF010545, which is the imitation turquoise scaled model. The steel on the Rough Riders may not be the most premier, but, that company surely knows how to sharpen an edge before their knives leave the factory.
Besides the fast shipping, (a shocking 2 days overall), what truly amazed me is that this particular model Barlow came packaged in a large, matte finished, marble display case. Carved into the marble lid of the box is the image of a feather, (no doubt to mirror the Native American like, turquoise scaled, design of this knife.
All that, and if you are wondering, for less than $16 bucks, shipped to the front door of my shack.
That knife, in that box, have for the time being replaced the yellow Delrin scaled Elephant Toe that normally inhabits that part of the living room.
Thanks again, Steven, for staying in touch. If you are representative of the others of this community, then I know that I am lucky to have been accepted as a new fellow member.
With best regards, GZ
Godzilla Unchained said… Hi Steve,
Thanks for the friendly email. The local fires today, and I guess they are still burning tonight, are up in the Camarillo area. That's about 50 or so miles North of the city. I just got home but was listening to the news while driving. It sounds like mostly a bunch of rabbits got cooked, and unfortunately a few farm structures too. But I don't believe any homes were lost, and no persons hurt. Still, it's a wild fire, and the wind has blowing like heck today. That's a very dangerous mix.
If you've ever been close to a wind blown wild fire, you already know what I'm talking about.
A couple years ago, a huge wind blown fire worked itself East from Corona, CA and burned a swath of Earth clear over the hills into Yorba Linda. I was working Yorba Linda on that day, and let me tell you, that fire was frightening in it's power. I am deadly serious when I tell you, I witnessed that fire wash from one hill to another in near lightening speed. It was like watching a huge wave race into the coast, but this wave was made of pure deadly flame.
Fortunately for everyone in those hills, the Fire Authorities were ahead of the fire by about an hour and managed to get notice to the residents to grab their families and leave, pronto. Even the fire line workers on the scene had to jump haul ass back to their trucks and beat if for lower and safer ground before that wave of flames washed over the hills.
Plenty of homes, as I recall, a few hundred, and tens of thousands of acres of land went up in smoke in that one.
Fortunately, today's Camarillo fire appears so far to be of much less magnitude. But.. the wind is blowing, and this part of the country is DRY DRY DRY, so this summer and Autumn are going to be very iffy.
Let's all just hope and pray for some rain, and, surely that no one gets hurt.
Thanks for your concern, Steven. I share it with you for all of those who may be affected.
Hope you are doing well over there at Cornerstone Croft. Your farm looks like a fine and cozy place. I'd be curious to learn if wild fire is a shared concern for you out there on your spread. If you can find the time, let me know, and if so, what you do to protect yourself, family, and loved ones, (both 2 AND 4 legged).
With best regards, GZ.

Godzilla Unchained said… Hi Steve,
Thanks for your welcome greeting to this new member of iKC. And thanks also for your link to "5 Top things to do to get started". Well, you can be sure I will be getting started with that link, but, first things first. And the first thing to do here is to say thank you for your hospitality and your well wish.
Same back to you. PS, now that you've offered, expect to here from me again. No doubt I will take you up on your offer sometime for MORE ADVICE.
Best regards,
GZ

Christopher Quinlan said… Steve, the A.G. Russell Beak is sold out everywhere. You said A.G. is a pretty understanding guy..is there any way we can get a hold of him? I just really want that knife.
Thanks.
John Jones said… Thank you, Steve!! I'm happy to be here! Yeah, it's very sad that I don't like knives. If I liked 'em, I'd probably have to rent an aircraft hanger to store 'em. Thanks, too, for the link to "Name the 5 top things to do when you join iKnife Collector!"
Thanks for the great wishes, I enjoy having ya'll as friends.
