Hi Jim,

Your idea sounds great. I wish I could help you out with some blanks, but I don't make my own blades. I have to buy blanks myself. For small fixed blade knives, I've had pretty good luck finding stout butcher knives that are in decent shape at the local thrift shops (Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.) and grinding them to the shape I want. They are usually 440C stainless and over 1/8th inch thick at the spine. An example of one of my knives that I made from a butcher knife is attached. Sorry I can't help you more, and I hope you find a way to get some blanks that aren't too expensive.
