.. the higher the mirror finish .. the more resistant to oxidation the steel surface will be .. that high polish also minimizes the available surface area .. There's wisdom in the stmt .. what's best for you is what wks for you !!!

One of the things that we should remember is that these coatings do serve a purpose first and foremost, with esthetics being secondary. Sad to say, but a lot of knife makers put esthetics first and foremost as this is what they feel their consumers…

Thanks, my knife making was limited to one Scandi and a Darryl Ralph knife kit.....I've got a few ideas now though about knives and things that I want to do, and making is right there high up the list.mostly because the stuff I would really like is just not out there

We have a lot in common. I did martial arts when younger, listen to all sorts of guitar music and eat every vegetable I've ever encountered, and my knife making is strictly beginners stuff so you're probably way ahead of me there. Welcome to our group.

Hey Ray
Thanks for much for jumping right into the mix here at iKC. I appreciate it! If I can help you in any way, please give me a shout.
When you can, I'd love to see some of those "interesting mechanisms" knives you have...sounds right down my alley.
Scott
