Hey Shawn, I'm back from Texas so now I have time to help you a bit. I'm familiar with Ralph's way of throwing and it is fun, but as a beginner I'd suggest you allow the knife to spin naturally. Without being there with you I can only give basic thoughts on how to get started. You look good in your stance so I'd suggest about 1 foot back for every inch of knife for a handle throw of a 1 spin. So a 12" knife should work at about 11 or 12 feet. Move back about 3 feet for a 1 1/2 spin, 3 more for a 2 spin, etc. etc. In the IKTHoF we use 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23 for a 1/2 spin up to a 2 1/2 spin. Remember to let the knife slide from your hand naturally and hold it the same on each throw. Also the target blocks behind that pine board will take hold of the knife better. You'll also need to remove those feathers or whatever are on the knives or they will not allow the proper spin.
