First off it really just depends on what kind of a collector you are going to me, if your gonna be brand specific then there are some really great books out there. If you are just looking for some price hints there are also good books for that too, but their different.
Collecting Case Knives: by Steve Pfeiffer is a great way to learn about each pattern and it's an excellent price guide.
Another good book for price points is a book by C. Huston Price called Collector Knives.
I really suggest these books if your into a little history and some good advice on price.
johnny twoshoes said… Terry, welcome to Iknife, you have picked an excellent day to get started on knife collecting. I see that you like Buck knives, that great. I grew up on Buck knives so I have a deep respect for them, they are some of the most storied knives ever made.
If you get a chance check out Great Eastern Cutlery, they're making some great tradition folders. They off some really high quality slipjoints in carbon and stainless steel. For a good solid user they are hard to beat. If you get a chance check us out on the GEC forum.
