This knife belonged to a friend of mines dad who passed away a few years ago. He found it in his tool box and is trying to get some info on it. The numbers on it looks like GS3038. I cant find it in my books. He was also wondering if he should sent it to case to be repaired or leave it the way it is. Like i said I have no idea. All I know is that it is gold stone and was made around 1914.

Worth Point just recently auctioned one of these knives here is a description:

A W.R.CASE & SONS 3 blade STOCK KNIFE in the GS3038 pattern. It has GOLD STONE celluloid handles with small cracks around the pins and some slightly greenish discoloration. The blades have been sharpened but appear to be full. Light pitting and staining on all three blades. Snap is good on all three blades. Good stamps. No "wooble". The bolsters have it all.......GROOVED , PINCHED, and SLANTED. A rare pre-1920 knife worthy of some serious bids. 3 1/2" CLOSED and 5 7/8" OPEN

Don't know what it sold for but it is described as rare.

Wow, left fingered typing only Lee, thats not easy to do...hope you heal up quick. I do agree, slanted bolsters on a 1914 Case? I guess could be but I have not seen. Goldstone for sure and must have been one good looking knife when new. I would ask Case for help on it for sure.

Wow Lee, sorry to hear about your arm, I know I suffer with medical problems too. I hope Case can take time to see about this for you.

Well it is a case the slanted pinched bolsters throw me though. Personally I have never seen them on any but a new Case knife. I really like them though. I'll ask him about him contacting Case. Typing is a chore with a broken right arm. That's why I haven't been on here much.

If it's a Case knife, I would Email them and see what they think. It's certainly old enough to be treated well for a while now. Good luck with it please tell us what you find out. I love the mystery of an old knife.

Well, that's an idea, Lee. I have looked at that several times and it is hard to put a positive ID on it. certainly looks pretty well used and looks like somebody may have used the dreaded "pry bar" maneuver on it!
