The online community of knife collectors
I had posted a blog earlier which was called Am I right? I decided I would try to do this myself and removed the post.
The Question is the age of the posted knife,
I did some home work and reading and found a few interesting things, to me anyway as I did not know any of this.
Looking at the knife I see the Tang Stamp as,
HEINR. BOKER &CO (there is a amulet over the O but I do not know how to make it)
Baumwerk-solingen
Germany- Almania
The Tree symbol is stamped on the reverse of the blade. All three of the blades have the same markings. I found a publication on the Net. In KNIFEWORLD, BOKER CELEBRATES 140 YEARS VOL.35 By Mark D. Zalesky. In this I found a ton of useful history, and information on Boker USA and Germany.
In the publication it points out the fact that the amulet over the “O” was not added until 1930, so here I have my starting date. Very excited at this point!
The publication had a reference at the back as to which Tang Stamp was used and when, It gave reference to the stamp being used from 1932- 1950.
I had read somewhere that Solingen was bombed to rubble in World War Two and I started digging into dates when that would have happened. It turns out Solingen was Bombed out in 1944. So for obvious reasons I don’t think they were making knives at this point. The war ended in 1945 and by 1947 they were back making knives once again. They were full swing in 1950 supplying knives around the world.
So this does support the information in the publication.
This knife was made from 1932-1950. I want more. I found a blog right here in iknife that was very interesting and helpful.
The Shield Tells a Story - More on Estimating the Age of Boker Knives Posted by Ricky. Thanks by the way.
Ricky spoke of a shield that had a registered trade mark. The shield he showed did not have the Solingen stamp under the tree. My knife did not have a trade mark but it did have the word Solingen in the shield. Reading on in the Knifeworld.com publication it had a small area noted “general Boker dating info”. At the bottom it said German Bokers with a large round shield no Solingen are pre WW11, those with a round shield with the Solingen are post WW11. So my knife was not made before 1943.Given that nothing was made from 1943 until 1947.
This knife had to made between 1947 and 1950. Also noting that the Heir. Boker & co. did not start exporting until 1950 after the war would suggest that this knife was made around the 1950s. I have an old catalog I have tried to compare the knife to it. I think it is a model 7474.
I think I did it!!! Learn something new each day. Now let’s see if I did it right.

Thanks, so much Ron, I am excited that I made a good deal. The knife will stay in my Moose pattern collection so if I made a monetary gain thats great but to get a good knife cheap is what I enjoy.
Comment by Ron"TUNA"Dumeah on February 6, 2012 at 17:50 I spoke with Ricky on the knife as well. The tang stamp on your knife is the one they used starting in the sixties. Ricky can not find the knife in any of his catalogs after 1967. So we know the production run on this one was from 1960 to 1967. The Great Western etch is something I have not found any info on neither has Ricky. So I am still on the hunt for that info. I think you have yourself a great knife there. It has made it 52 years and has a great patina on it the bolsters and scales are in great shape. It does not look used in the photos at all. Great purchase. It will serve well for another 50 years.
Thanks Ron, I'll try and post a picture of the tang stamps.
Comment by Ron"TUNA"Dumeah on February 2, 2012 at 18:41 I took a good look at the knife in the picture from E bay. First looking the shield to see if there was a trade mark stamp. Then looking at the Tang stamp. No trade make means the knife was made before 1975. The tang stamp used on the knife has been used from 1960 until present. So your knife was made some where between 1960 and 1975. I would still like to see the tang stamp to confirm. However... I did find this knife. It is very close to yours. The tang stamp used on this knife was in use between 1932 and 1950. It has been known to be used on some reproduction knives. I just posted this so you could see the knife in its newer state. It really has not changed much over the years. Great looking knife. I might just have to find one!
Ron, I finally got the knife. It has 7267 and Moose Patern on the spey blade. The tang stamp has Boker Solingen Germany with a tree design. I will get up a picture when I get a chance in my Moose patern mini group. Thanks, I hope you can do something with this info.
Ron, I just won an old Boker on Ebay and I'm not sure of the age. When I recieve it I could sure use some help finding out the date of it. Thanks
Comment by Ken Yerian on December 4, 2011 at 7:56 Got one just like it I recieved for my 12'th birthday in 1965. I remember looking at it with my dad at Gamwells hardware store in glouster Ohio and I think it cost a little over $ 2.00 I still have it although it is retired.

Great work on the discovery. This is also the type of knife information I like, a little research makes me happy
