Hey, Happy Birthday, my friend. I hope you have a great one. Please, be more active, on our club. We all enjoyed your presence and your opinion on things. Heck, if they let a Cajun, run wild on here, you should be okay.LOL
Great collection Kent, so many beauties to choose from. I am not sure which is my favorite. Is that a Buck 501 with stag scales?
Kent, from what I understand of the history that I have learned, I believe your original Buck 301 was made by Schrade Cutlery Co. Buck had Schrade make the original 301 and 303 before handing the reigns to Camillus. After Buck got their new factory together and got the right equipment, they started producing their own 300 series.
I'm not sure if you already knew this or not, just wanted to share.
I have two 303 knives, one made by Schrade and the other by Buck in the 80's, there is a world of difference in the two knives. The schrade has a "swinden" key in it's bolster that holds everything together, so there are some differences in two knives for sure. Both are extremely usable and very quality folders.
It just seems this series works, no matter who made them.
The Buck 301 stockman is a true piece of Americana. I know the 110 is famous everywhere, but I have seen a ton of those black three bladers pulled out of the pocket of many working men. They can not be shunned for everything they have done.
I am not a stockman guy in the sense that I will never collect them. I just don't like them as a soul pattern to follow. I know they are the mainstay in a lot of collector's boxes, but I see them as users only.
I used a Case large stockman for many years and that knife did everything I asked of it. It was a nice tool to have around, I just fell off the wagon and moved on. My Buck 301 is one of my favorite knives, I can't look at it and not think of a good days work.
