Zac Brown, Country Singer And His Knife "Grandaddy"!

Posted on May 2, 2012 at 13:52 7 Comments

Recently in the April issue of Knives Illustrated, an article was written about Zac Brown, a country singer and knife manufacturer.  My boss Bruce Voyles, wrote about Zac Brown and the “Grandaddy” Bowie he produces through his knife manufacturing company called Southern Grind.  Singer Brown is a big knife fan as well as a cook and guitar lover.  This article talks about this knife and Brown’s career.  Brown also has a love of children and is opening a camp for children with challenging…

Case has come out with their tactical folder which is made in China.  They have 28 models but when you discount serrated blades, black and silver blades and medium and small you have 9 basic folding knives.  To check out these knives go to www.tecx.com to look over all of the models.  They are priced from $15.99 to $59.99 USD.  Here are some pictures including the Case single bladed, liner lock, thumb stud trapper with a pocket clip.  This Case trapper…

Unconventional Combat Knife.

Posted on September 27, 2011 at 12:47 14 Comments

I am researching my next knife article.  The article will be about unconventional combat knives.  I just finished and shipped out an article about Spyderco's Warrior which was designed by Guy Rafaeli who is an expert martial artist who lives in Israel.  Rafaeli teaches knife fighting to the SF of the Israel Defense Forces.  His rendition of the Warrior is made for only one thing….taking out bad guys nose to nose and toes to toes.  Check out the Warrior on Spyderco’s web site. …

Were tactical tomahawks ever issued to the military as a weapon?

Posted on September 13, 2011 at 9:23 17 Comments

I just received my copy of the Nov. issue of Knives Illustrated which will be on the newstands the first of October. Check it out.

My article is "Tomahawks as Tactical Weapons".  I explored the Vietnam Tomahawk issue with a former LRRP Ranger who was there from 1968 to 1969.  I would like some feedback from this group about the subject of are tomahawks

For instance, I have a Navy Seal friend of 18 years service as a Seal and retired from the Navy with over 20 years…

Hey Clint, how have you been? I while back I was supposed to do a knife review for you but tradgady struck here at home, with the loss of my darling wife of 42 years. I am sorry I didn't get a chance to do it for you. I am a man of my word and I want to do the review for you but I now have another problem. I built a cottage for one of my grand daughters with the help of alot of good friends. The last part was the plumbing. A good friend, that's  a plumbmer, came did the bathroom for me. Well none of my friends charged anything, so when they were finished their different jobs, I would give them each a knife. I buy some inexpensive knives as presents every year. Well, when my plumbmer was finished I told my grand daughter for them to go in the house and let Jeff, pick out a knife. Well some kind of way, that Case knife got mixed up with my give aways. When they came out of the house, to my surprise, Jeff had the Case knife. I didn't have the heart to take it back, Soooo, I figured, I just buy another knife and send it back to you but I am having trouble finding that model Case knife. I just want you to know, I will make it good, just give me a little time. Thanks, your buddy, Rob

I read your review in Knives Illustrated of Pat Crawford's Survival Staff. That was just great. I don't think I have ever seen a better staff with more bells and whistles. As always some great insight!

My bad, I missed that completely! Now I see what you are talking about, interesting how those serrations lay out on the knife.

As always a great article in Knives Illustrated on Tradition or Tactical Clint. Some great reviews, contrasts and comparisons. You had some great points about that Case single blade trapper may have to eventually get one and try it. Loved seeing Steve Williams too. I wish it would have had the picture of the CRKT Ignitor, with the Veff serration system though. It sounds like an interesting design.

Wow Clint, that is a great knife, I will check it out soon. My wife has developed a medical problem, so it might slow me down. How are the little children doing? Please keep em, smiling.

Knife companies have done contracting for years, nothing new. It is odd though as it should be Case contracting for somebody else.  Time may be catching them and they must be more nimble or they will lose what they have. New steels, popular scales, good solid quality, good design..I mean its like blocking and tackling in football, you get those right you can win some games. It is all about the fundamentals. But the thing is the new kids on the block are doing more with less. Lower labor costs, better steels, innovative designs, good quality, solid service. Its a lot to take on to preseve market share.
