The Christmas Catalog

Oh boy, I just received the new Shepherd Hills Christmas catalog! There are some really beautiful knives in there. I’m not talking about the great array of mammoth ivory or pearl or exotic handle materials – there are some new designs and new treatments. The first thing to catch my eye was the five blade trappers. Five blades on a trapper is a little much, but these were full size and they had the Cigar Band type of shield. I got mine from Knifeworks for 63$, so 67$ with shipping is a good price, if it is totally NIB and not pre-owned.

Thanks for the kind comment in the Dragonfly picture. I have no idea how the tattoo is actually made but it is beautiful. At first I imagined it'd be sunk in the handle but the pattern is actually raised up, you can feel it. It also baffles me how those tiny, tiny grooves are made, are they acid etched or laser cut and then anodized or what?
But as described in the letter that comes with it, it is truly a functional piece of art. :)

desiccants are fine in a SEALED application to reduce humidity, but in a open situation like a gun safe or wooden cabinet WORTHLESS. why? because they will absorb just so much humidity, then are "saturated" and are rendered useless.to rejuvenate the…

Any of you use desiccants to protect your collections? If so, where do you live, (how humid?) and in what what do you keep your knives? (I make drawer cases for all manner of collectors -and lots of knife collectors- and wonder if I ought to help th…

I thought I'd jump in here and "end" this thread: I did send the knife into Case Repair fellowing the instructions on the website. I intentionally tried to forget about the knife so I wouldn't drive myself crazy haunting the mailbox every morning i…

I suppose it all depends on the 'defendant's" political leanings. Seems to me that the enlightened left can get away with murder (or switch-blades), while the conservative folks get in trouble for saying 'dang-it' after something heavy lands on thei…

wow! yeah that's a fantastic list. I think you need to add WD-40 or a similar product to help remove dirty oil from the pivots of folders or any moving parts and to help loosen stuck screws. another item would be lok-tite or a similar product to s…

Add a can of Ren Wax to keep them nice and purdy and I also use a little bag of Silica gel to keep the moisture out ! You sure did a good list though! One doesn't even think of all the stuff that you use and accumulate.
